Through The Garden Gate : December 2019

The last day of 2019 and time for a quick dash round the garden before the sun sets. Better half has been very busy for the last few days. Finally the rain has stopped and time to begin the big tidy up. As usual I’m joining Sarah for ‘Through The Garden Gate’.

After November’s vibrant oranges and ochre, this month sees a much more paired back palette. Soil once more is revealed and the start of colour coming from the daphne and hellebores . At the bottom the fatsia leaves are the star attraction along with a few bold camellia flowers. We have January to look forward for most of the camellia colour but it’s good to have a few now.

Lots of changes will be happening soon. The middle lawn is a disaster after continual rain and plans are afoot... Watch this space for more updates.

Spotted laurel is providing some winter berries, keeping our winged visitors happy. Although the great tits are heading straight for the bird feeders. Beginia is looking a little mottled but at least it adds some colour to a dreary corner.

Bulbs have been planted in pots and now it’s time to plan for next year. Have you any changes in mind for your garden in 2020?

Wishing all my readers a very Happy New Year, wherever you are.
